Hello WAAS Middle School Parents!

For the past two weeks, the Hiring Committee for the Social Studies Position has been working diligently to find the best candidate for the middle school social studies position. The members of the Hiring Committee are:  DeAnna Peplow, Nancy Cunningham, Heather Braithwaite, Jesse Simon, Lisa Giacomelli, Melissa Puritis and me.  On behalf of the Hiring Committee and Board of Trustees, I am proud to announce that Miss Anna Cubbage has joined the WAAS staff as the Middle School Social Studies teacher.
Miss Cubbage, a graduate of UNCW, was a  NC Teaching Fellow and has just finished her fourth year in the Onslow County Schools.  She has two years of experience teaching 7th grade Social Studies and working with AIG students , and she has taught high school Social Studies  for the past two years.  Originally from Onslow County, Anna comes from a family of educators  Her father is currently a Social Studies teacher at a high school in Onslow County.
A total of twelve rising 6th,7th and 8th grade students participated in her demonstration lesson on democracy last Thursday.  Actively engaged, students were exposed to the same dynamic lesson  they are accustomed to every day at WAAS.
She will begin working on her website after the holidays, and I will let you know when it is live.   Please join me in welcoming Miss Cubbage to the WAAS family!
