f.benfield@wilmingtonacademy.org
After 30 years of working for North Carolina Public Schools, Floyd Benfield is thrilled to embark on a new chapter at Wilmington Academy of Arts and Sciences, where he enjoys engaging with students, families, and faculty. Mr. Benfield brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having worked as an Instructional Technology Facilitator for most of his career and as a Digital Teaching and Learning Specialist at the district level for the last two years of his public school career. His experience includes maintaining information technology systems, managing school-wide software, overseeing external and internal networks, and providing technical support for staff and student devices. Most importantly, he has specialized in leveraging digital tools to enhance students’ learning experiences. He started teaching in 1994 as a Special Education teacher and continued in that role until 2002. This work inspired him to return to school, obtain a master’s degree in educational technology, and leverage technology to help meet the needs of students.
