Our Language Arts Teacher – Ms. Melissa Puritis
Ms. Puritis has always loved reading, but it wasn’t until the end of her first year in graduate school that she considered becoming a teacher. In 2007, she began sharing her love of reading and writing with juniors and seniors at Coastal Christian High School, teaching mainly honors and Advanced Placement level courses. She was also very involved in Homecoming activities, planning the annual Junior/Senior prom, and coaching Powder Puff football. After seven years at the high school level, though, Ms. Puritis was ready for a new challenge and came to WAAS to teach middle school language arts.
Outside of teaching, Ms. Puritis spends much of her time with her family. A family of sports enthusiasts, much of their time is spent watching football and UNC basketball. Someday, Ms. Puritis hopes to have grand adventures across the globe with her son, but for now, she enjoys chasing Avery around the beach and the park, cheering him on at t-ball and soccer, and movie night.
In her “spare” time, her favorite hobbies are reading and writing, watching HGTV and pinning home improvement ideas on Pinterest, and, sometimes, actually seeing those ideas through to fruition.
