Part-Time Arts Explorations Teacher

Wilmington Academy of Arts & Sciences (WAAS), a 4th-8th grade private school that serves highly motivated and academically gifted students is seeking a part-time Art Explorations teacher. This two day a week teaching position would ideally take a creative and flexible approach to leading students in exploring engaging pathways of learning in the disciplines of visual arts, performing arts, music, and physical education. The philosophy of this course is to introduce opportunities for students to be exposed to, explore, and show appreciation in a variety of learning topics to benefit a well-rounded understanding of the arts and the world around us. Examples of areas of discovery in the past have included local art competitions, American sign language, art appreciation, music appreciation, cup stacking, jewelry making, map skills, problem solving, team building, scrap booking, flipbooks, tie dye, hula hooping, kickball, fun run, calligraphy, and much more.

The ideal candidate would be prepared to provide students an array of units of study across the school year, and be willing to work strategically with colleagues to create cross-curricular connections in language arts, math, science, social studies and spanish.

Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree, with preferred focus in the Arts
K-12 Teaching Experience
Availability to teach two days a week (consecutive days), between 9:00 am and 2:30 pm, August through May
Interest in leading an afterschool club, or program, is a plus
Positive, energetic, and engaged in the school community
Understanding and appreciation for inquisitive and highly motivated students
