To the WAAS Community:

As we shared in the teachers’ video, we have a unique opportunity to expand the usable area of the WAAS campus and increase safety. In order to better protect our children,  we believe it is necessary to install an 8 foot privacy fence to enclose the new property before making it usable for outdoor learning and recreation. The second opportunity is to slightly modify the front driveway by adding asphalt to improve traffic flow at pickup and drop off. This minor modification should eliminate congestion on Myrtle Grove Road and keep your children safe during every stage of the pickup process.

Since acquiring the property in September 2021, eliminating obstacles to make the land usable and lining up contractors have been quite time consuming. While construction costs are always changing, we have worked diligently in the spring and summer to get to this point.

Our current projection to make the land usable and improve traffic flow is $67,500.  Since these are not regular budget items and to make this dream a reality for the WAAS students for next year, these opportunities can only happen if we parents make financial contributions.

Phase I – With approximately 40% of funding, we can clear the land for outdoor use and work on the modifications for the front driveway.

Phase II – If we complete the land clearing and have the next 40% we can install the privacy fence the entire area and remove the current fence behind our building.

Phase III – With the land cleared and fenced and the final 20% raised, we could improve the back lot for activities and outdoor learning.

Note: These are estimates based on bids and real world costs. Some changes are beyond our control. We will do our best to conserve costs and any excess funds would enrich the project. As we all know, costs are changing every day.

With an average donation of $825 per student, we would have the funds to complete the project.

If you have the means to contribute more, please consider giving more. If you have the means to give some, please consider giving some.

How can I give?

Please indicate your pledge to give by filling out this electronic form: WAAS Campus Improvement Pledge Form

After filling out the form, please make a check payable to WAAS and send it in, attn: Christine Ashley, Office Manager. Note: 1616 Indian Cove Project. Electronic giving is not currently available. If you would like to give in installments, that is possible – please see the suggested schedule on the pledge form.

Please note that all funds given to this project are tax deductible and receipt letters will be written.

Additionally, if you are interested in taking a tour of the new lot, please contact Ms. Upton and she will be glad to arrange a visit.

We truly believe our efforts and contributions can and will make a difference for our students while adding more variety to their current learning environment. Thank you for thoughtfully considering these opportunities.
