WAAS SUMMER CAMPS 2020
Please see the available summer camps offered by WAAS teachers. The various camps are designed to give the students an academic and social jumpstart into the school year. I highly recommend that new students participate in the summer camps because it will allow the teachers to become better acquainted with the students, and it will provide students with opportunities to meet their teachers and classmates.

Cape Fear Adventure Company Outdoor Summer Camp
Teacher: Mr. Adams, WAAS 4th/5th Grade Teacher
June 22 -26, 2020

Writing Camp
Teacher: Mrs. Puritis, Middle School LA Teacher
July 13-17, 2020 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Cost: $200.00
All grade levels are invited; however, this opportunity is highly recommended for rising 6th grade and new students.
The camp’s primary goal is to help students learn to write essays with more focus and sophistication, including organization, transitions, structure, thesis statements and word choice. Grammar will be discussed as needed.

Spanish Camps

Beginner Boot Camp
Teacher: Senora Siebold, WAAS Spanish Teacher (Grades 4-8)
July 20-24, 2020 9:00-12:00 a.m.
Cost: $200.00
Beginner Boot Camp is recommended for those new to the language. This camp would be appropriate for newly enrolling students to WAAS (in any grade) whohave not previously taken any Spanish. Returning WAAS students still at the Novice/Beginner proficiency level would also benefit. Hands on, interactive lessons will make this boot camp fun and painless.

Spanish Novel Study
Teacher: Senora Siebold, WAAS Spanish Teacher (Grades 4-8)
July 13-17, 2020 9:00 – 12:00 a.m.
Cost: $200.00
Spanish Novel Study designed for students in any grade level at the intermediate or advanced proficiency level. This camp will be an immersion camp conducted completely in Spanish. Students will read a novel (Pirates del Caribe), learn about locations and participate in an amazing race type scavenger hunt to find hidden treasure on WAAS campus.

Social Studies 101
Teacher: Miss Cubbage, WAAS Middle School Social Studies
July 27-30, 2020 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Cost: $200.00
This camp is recommended for 6th – 8th grade students, especially 6th grade and new students.
A week long camp that provides students, especially rising 6th graders and transferring students, with opportunities, resources and support for the foundations of social studies. Students will be introduced to researching, critical thinking and inquiry skills, working with primary and secondary sources, human geography and current events all within the social studies curriculum.

Pre Algebra Math Camp (Rising 6th graders)
