Hello Parents of 4th/5th Grade Parents!
I am pleased to announce that Mrs. Sandy Sciales ( pronounced Ski Alice)  has signed a  contract to teach the 4th/5th grade class at Wilmington Academy of Arts and Sciences.
On Friday, June 9, eleven WAAS students participated in the STEAM lesson which required the students to work in groups to construct a Durham Boat out of duct tape and then test it. This lesson integrated social studies, science, math, writing, critical thinking and team building.  Mrs. Sciales was quick to recognize and appreciate how smart and precious our students are.
With a total of nine years of teaching experience in both public and private schools in Georgia and North Carolina and a Masters Degree in Elementary Education (Grades K-6),  Sandy Sciales  has taught the past five years at Myrtle Grove Christian School.  The first four years she taught 4th and 5th grade math and science.  Last year, she taught math and Spanish.  Mrs. Sciales has taught at least two of our current students, and she comes highly recommended and respected by the students and parents.  She is eager to become AIG certified and coach the 4th/5th Grade Science Olympiad team.  And yes, she likes the idea of classroom pets. ☺
According to her references, Mrs. Sciales loves children and  has a passion for teaching and building strong relationships among parents and students. She is experienced working with children of varying levels.  Words such as creative, passionate, amazing  and  love for learning were constantly used when describing her.
Mrs. Sciales is attracted to WAAS because her philosophy is closely aligned with ours, and she feels that she can grow by working with us.  She plans  to work closely with  our middle school teachers to make sure that the 4th/5th grade students are well prepared for 6th grade and middle school.
Mrs. Sciales’ email address is sandysciales@gmail.com.  A list of supplies and materials for the classroom will be sent to you soon.
The Hiring Committee committee consisted of: Alex Tamadon, Heather King, Amanda Strickland, Heather Braithwaite, Jesse Simon, Lisa Giacomelli, Stephanne Marsh, Melissa Puritis and me.
Thank you for your trust and patience.
