Hello Middle School Parents!

We consider field trips an opportunity to learn outside the classroom. It is another effective way to enhance our students’ learning and make it more relevant and interesting.   Soon, our  Middle School students will be taking two field trips for Explorations. The permission forms below need to be completed and given to Mrs. Upton by Sept. 5. Drivers are also needed for both events. Since WAAS relies on parents to drive, we need  parents to provide transportation for both of these field trips.

The first trip is a visit to Cameron Arts Museum on Thursday, September 8. The purpose of the visit is to see some examples of art created by three of the artists we will be studying: Mary Cassatt, Minnie Evans, and Virginia Wright-Frierson. The students will be examining and organizing 78 of Wright-Frierson’s paintings that are part of her exhibit Patchwork North America, and locating the sites of those paintings using Google Maps. Wright-Frierson will be giving a gallery talk to our students and will also address her involvement with the Minnie Evans Bottle Chapel project at Airlie Gardens. That will prepare students for the visit to Airlie Gardens on Tuesday, October 4, where they will receive another perspective and additional information on Minnie Evans and Wright-Frierson.
