A message from Miss Cubbage…

As we begin the second nine weeks and continue our service learning, I wanted to share more information with you about two opportunities for WAAS to serve Wilmington in November:

Liz Carbone, Community Coordinator at the Good Sheperd, will be coming to WAAS the week before Thanksgiving. National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is November 16-24, and we spoke about WAAS students organizing a collection drive. If you are interested in leading this drive, please let me know.

Also, UNCW’s Adopt-A-Family program will begin registration during the last week of October. I can register WAAS, but I would love for students to lead collections. Adopt-A-Family is a great opportunity to shop for a local family in need of assistance for their Thanksgiving meal. They work in conjunction with the Sister Isaac Center at the Basilica Shrine of St. Mary’s, located in downtown Wilmington. This center provides food, clothing, household items, and financial assistance to community members and families.
